How to Carry a Camera Without a Bag

As a photographer, you have to carry your camera to different places from destination to destination. Cameras are expensive and you don’t want to break anything, but there are times when it's easier to carry a camera without a bag. Here are some camera-bag alternatives that are useful and keep your camera secure.

Use a Camera Strap

If you don’t want to use a camera bag, then a camera strap is the easiest option. They tend to be lightweight, simple, and cheap. Most cameras come with a decent strap, so you most likely already have one on hand.

There are also plenty of strap upgrades that you can find to add durability, comfort, and quick access. The only downside of camera straps is that you can usually only carry a camera. If you need any additional lens or tripod holders, you will need something to accommodate them.

Use a Camera Cube

Camera cubes are small packs that carry camera equipment. They slot into non-camera backpacks or messenger bags. With a camera bag, you can use a standard backpack to safely pack away your camera.

This can be helpful in situations where you want to keep all your camera and non-camera gear together. For example, if you’re preparing for a camping trip, you could use a camera cube in your all-purpose backpack alongside your camping gear, food, and other items.

Use a Camera Harness

Camera harnesses are designed with quick access and security in mind. It allows you to reach down, grab your camera or lens, and capture some quick shots. There are many different types of harnesses that carry multiple cameras, fit onto your shoulders, sling across your body, or sit with your belt.

With a camera harness, you have all your gear with you at all times without having to worry about lugging a backpack around. With the right camera harness, not only will you have convenient access to your camera, but it will be comfortable and designed ergonomically.
